We spent last week at the beach! We had been looking forward to this trip all summer. After much deliberation, we decided to head to Galveston Island. I am so glad we did. For one, a 4 hour car trip was just long enough. :-) Most importantly, I felt great about visiting a town that was devastated just last September from Hurricane Ike. They have been rebuilding and beautifying the whole town and it looked great! Big beautiful pastel colored beach houses, high rise condos and all sorts of new things! Driving into town, it was so sad to see rows after row of 100 year old oak trees gone to meet their Maker. They soaked in salt water for too long during the flood. They are all going to be cut down but plans are in the works for new trees to be planted! Galveston natives are keeping the faith and are committed to rebuilding. I was proud to give them our vacation dollars and we will definitely be back!
We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo on the water. It was lovely! Madeline was BESIDE HERSELF when she saw the bunk bed in her room! She just adored it.
Some of my shots are a bit dark, but this is our living room and first balcony.
The Master bedroom. I just fell in love with the colors in here. I love the sea foam green and water blue hues. I want to decorate a room in our home like this….maybe add some treasures of ours from Florida. In the picture below you see our grandest Florida-born treasure with hair the color of honey!
We had a routine. We spent the mornings at the beach. We had coffee and breakfast in the condo and then headed down by 8:30. Around 11:00 I would take Marcella up for her nap and Al and Madeline would stay. I would sit and read and stare off the balcony into the horizon. sigh. Quiet time. :-) After nap and lunch we would head out to see the sights! It worked out great.
Our condo came with 2 boogie boards which were such fun! The little kick boards we brought weren’t making the cut. Our beach was private so we were able to leave up our umbrella and chairs and stuff the whole time we were there. That was super-nice. I guess someone could have stolen them in the night…but we didn’t have any trouble and were grateful for it.
Fish would jump straight out of the water…it was so cool just stand there and have fish jumping all around us.
Marcella had to taste the sand just one more time…in case she forget how it tasted last summer. heehee…
Morning sun on the beach….incredibly beautiful!
Okay, so we took one of those duck tours! You know, the kind that go on the streets and in the water. We knew the girls would love it and they did!
Marcella and Madeline loved to “drive”…..
Look at their faces…..he is driving us into the water!!!!
Marcella would have jumped overboard, had I let her….so serious!
Part 2 coming up!
