Keeping it real

Please don't laugh your pants off at this weeks' cake! I frosted a chocolate fudge cake with white icing...not a good plan! Little specs of cake were all over the frosting! My teacher was not pleased. Those are little grape clusters on top. They turned out good but the rest.......ehhhh. Next week I must master the rose! Guess I better get some practice in this week It sure tasted good, though!

Bet the cake was still good tho. Before you frost, take your spatula or even finger & run it around the cake edges & top if necessary & brush off the crumbs. That was a lesson fr my cake decorating class years ago.

Hi~ I came across your blog through Kelli's show n tell Friday. I thought I'd share tip I when I took a one day crash course in cake decorating a few years ago. Do a "crumb layer". Put a thin layer of icing on the cake then refridgerate for 1/2 hr or so. Then put on your final icing layer that everyone sees! All the crumbs are in that first layer! I've found it works. HTH! Have a great day. Lisa

PS: Your cake decorating looks great! Taking classes sounds like fun! I didn't learn much more than how to icing the cake in my brief "schooling". :D Lisa
