Daddy and Madeline's Garden

Well, we had a fairly quiet weekend and stayed pretty close to home. Al and Madeline started work on their garden on Saturday. We had a really big veggie garden in Texas and Madeline just loved plucking off the the cherry tomatoes and eating them right off the vine. I am excited to see how their garden does here, with this wonderful sandy soil. It will also be great to have fresh herbs again for cooking instead of those cellophane packages!

Al started by making a 8' by 6' raised bed. He made a compost mulch and tilled up the soil. They planted the following:

Carrots

Sweet bell peppers

red peppers

jalapenos

roma tomatoes

big boy tomatoes

sweet 100's

yellow pear tomatoes (M's fave)

and ....

basil

rosemary

chives

cilantro

A few marigolds were planted around the tomatoes, as well. I'll let you know how it is growing! Each evening when Al is done working, he and Madeline go out to check on their garden. They water it, if needed, and come back to me for a report! After school today, Madeline and I need to plant her Zinnia seeds that she picked out. We love to garden!

The soil here is so sandy that Madeline thought it was just a big sand box! Little does she know that he plans to make her one as his next project!
