Madeline's preschool starts back on the 18th. This year she will go 3 days a week, about 5 hours a day. (Last year was just 2 days a week). She goes to a wonderful Christian preschool at our church and we all just love it! In preparation for the school year we cleaned out her craft area yesterday. We went through every picture, painting and craft from the past year and saved the best ones in a keepsake box. We cleaned out desk drawers, threw away dried play doh chunks and markers that have lost their color. I even threw out broken crayons! When boxes of 24 only cost 22 cents....we can get rid off the yucky ones! We only use crayola brand because I think the other brands don't smell right or color the same! (yes, I am a crayon snob!) :-) We are ready to go!
This is a wonderful book that I bought last year. It has lots of great alternative ideas for packing lunch boxes. I'll admit last years' lunches got a bit boring. Either PB&J or turkey & cheese. But, with a little baby, things are often harder to accomplish! Marcella was still in the NICU when Madeline started school last year. One thing I was always able to do was put a special note in her lunch box with a little message. She told me she really loved them and her classmates looked forward to seeing the note each time. I used a 5x7 scrap pad to put the notes on, so each day had a different bright color and pattern. She saved all of them in a special box in her craft room, so I think it really meant alot to her!
This year I am going to think "out of the box"....no pun intended! I made up a list, using this book, of ideas for her lunch. I would like to send hot food on those freezing cold days (hahaha) and things like her favorite chicken salad, too. She was excited to help me plan her lunch idea list. The first day of school she wants hard boiled eggs and a little shaker of salt just like in the Francis books. Have you ever read those? I did in my childhood and now the girls have them, as well. They are wonderful...but you know how I feel about books! Next Wednesday is "Meet the Teacher" and Madeline is really excited! Have a great day, all!

I love Madeline's craft area and will have to steal that idea for H&L who start KINDERGARTEN in a few weeks. BOO HOO!! Even though they won't be at school for lunch I'm going to buy that book so I can have more creative lunches at home.
PS: Name-drop alert: I interviewed the lead singer of Maroon 5 a couple of weeks ago -- he was really very nice, and philosophical, too! Loved hearing the music on your blog!
